Sikkim Science Centre, developed by National Council of Science Museums communicates science and technology in a non-formal way for developing a scientific temper among people at large and the student community in particular. Shri Pawan Chamling, Chief Minister of Sikkim inaugurated the Centre on Feb 22, 2008 in presence of Shri Sher Bahadur Subedi, Minister, Depts of Forest & Environment, S&T, and Mines & Geology. Apart from the galleries on Unique Humankind and Fun Science, Children’s Activity Corner and Science Park, the Centre is also equipped with an inflatable dome planetarium.

The gallery “Unique Humankind”, with 39 exciting and mostly interactive exhibits, is a major exposition revealing why or how human being is unique among the various life forms on earth.

Interactive exhibits of the Fun Science gallery invite you to enjoy science through fun and merriment. In this gallery, the young ones take a course of exploration and interact with the pendulum creating chaos, objects defying gravity, optical gadgets creating illusions, rolling ball doing acrobatics, light producing colour shadows, mirrors producing crazy images and many more.

The Children's Activity Corner throws open a large variety of puzzles and science kits to be handled by the tiny-tots for kindling their imagination and activating thought process.

Taramandal - the inflatable dome Planetarium initiates one to positional astronomy. The demonstration is interactive and lively with scope for interaction between the visitor and the demonstrator.

Beyond four walls of the science centre lies a lush green Science Park where young children come and play with specially designed exhibits in the natural surroundings, try out various options and explore.

Sikkim Science Centre promotes activity-based education for better understanding of science. The Centre organizes Science Demonstration Lectures, Science Quiz, Science Seminars, Science Fair, Vacation Hobby Camp, etc. National Science day, World Environment day, World Population day, National Technology day etc. are also observed through appropriate programmes and activities. Special training courses are conducted for student in the fields of computer and electronics.
