National Council of Science
Museums (NCSM) is the largest network of science centres/museums under a single administrative umbrella
in the world. 27 science centers/museums
of NCSM located in different sites in India have a
total floor area of 155043 sq mtrs. and have been
visited by around 7 million people during
2007-08.
Continuous upgrade of display
materials and technology happens in the Council as
a part of its R&D activity.
Projects recently inaugurated were a new facility ‘Earth Exploration Hall’ at Science City, Kolkata and Large Format Film Projection System at Nehru Science Centre, Mumbai. Projects ready for inauguration/in the pipeline are Regional Science Centres at Raipur, Ranchi, Dharwad, Coimbatore, Pilikula and Jaipur; Sub-Regional Science Centre at Solapur; Sub-Regional Science Centre and Planetarium at Jorhat; and Planetarium at North Bengal Science Centre, Siliguri, District Science Centres at Dharampur, Gulbarga and Tirunelveli, and Sub-Regional Science Centre at Gangtok.

NCSM provides catalytic support to other organizations for setting up new
science centres within and outside the country.
The Council has developed several galleries and museums in close collaboration
with other government and corporate bodies. National Agricultural Science
Museum, Delhi and
ONGC Golden Jubilee Museum are two collaborative projects
developed by NCSM. Galleries like
BEL Hall of Electronics, Aerospace Hall and
Biotechnological
Revolution stand testimony to NCSM's excellence in creating
high-tech expositions of emerging technologies.
